Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a psychotherapeutic model that views people as an inner system of protective and wounded parts, guided by the Self.

The model assumes that the mind is naturally multiple and that this multiplicity is healthy: inner parts may be forced into extreme roles by life experiences, but are inherently endowed with valuable qualities.

IFS supports contact with the compassionate, undamaged Self and provides a framework for understanding and transforming inner processes from that perspective, with the aim of achieving greater inner harmony.

What does IFS Nederland do?

IFS Nederland’s mission is to promote inner harmony, psychological growth and self-leadership by disseminating and embedding the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model in the Netherlands and Dutch-speaking Belgium. One of its key priorities is to position IFS within both mainstream, publicly funded mental healthcare (such as mental health psychologists, psychiatrists and clinical psychologists) and complementary care settings (such as psychosocial therapy and body-oriented approaches).

IFS Nederland supports the development of a diverse IFS community in the Netherlands and Dutch-speaking Belgium, facilitates trainings and contributes to public awareness of trauma, parts work and inner resilience. Making IFS accessible to a broad audience is central to this work, while aligning with the ethics, integrity, core values and vision of the IFS Institute.

IFS is an evidence-based psychotherapeutic model for treating mental health issues. IFS is also a way of living that contributes positively to the prevention of mental health issues.
